Nongga Sundaeguk has been a famous spot in this neighborhood for ages, but Euljiro has so many heavy hitters that it was hard to make a point of stopping by. This day was the proper start of the Lunar New Year holidays, though, and every other place was closed.. (including the City Hall branch of Nongmin Baegam Sundae..) So I dropped in, and I ate very well indeed.
A place like this
Oldies Taco is right next door, so it isn’t hard to find. This is Hipjiro, after all..
Side dishes
They come out nicely.
Kimchi is self-serve
They dished some out for me since it was my first visit, but the regulars seemed to just help themselves. That’s what the old-school vibe is all about..
Sundaeguk
They said solo diners can’t order the set meal, so I just got the sundaeguk, and the sundaeguk alone was plenty big and tasty enough to leave me stuffed.
What’s inside
The earthenware pot is packed. The broth is clean and refreshing, the quality of the meat is excellent.. this place is the real deal..
Inside
It’s a very local sort of place.. so part of me feels it would actually be a problem if it got known as a hot restaurant..
Cat
You see a lot of cats around this neighborhood.
Cat mural
This was pretty cool too..
