There is a Korean BBQ joint called Naui Gaya in Seocho. Apparently it came recommended by Bimiriya. Corkage is free, you can get a private room, and the meat prices are reasonable (though the beef seems to be regular domestic beef rather than Hanwoo), so overall it was a place with really good value for money.

Aberfeldy 28 Year

The 28 year came out as a limited edition a long time ago, so I doubt they sell much of it these days. When you get the chance, you have to drink things like this.

A bottle like this

It glitters gold. Maybe it is because Aberfeldy is originally the base malt for Dewar’s, but it is really smooth. And drinking it on the rocks made the flavor come alive. It made me realize there are whiskies that taste better on the rocks than neat. Honestly, I thought a whisky like this is far easier and tastier for an ordinary person to drink than the ones you drink neat. That said, while the 28 year is good, thinking about value for money I did wonder whether the 12 year is not fine as well.

Doenjang soup

It tastes like the doenjang soup you get at a BBQ place.

Outside skirt steak

It looks pretty, but it is nutty and springy too, so it was incredibly good. This is a must-order.

Wine

I really need to write my wine notes down sooner rather than later.

Mushrooms

This was incredibly good as well. As a side dish at a BBQ place it is more than good enough.

Jjak-galbi

This was good too, and going by taste alone you could not tell whether it was Hanwoo or regular beef. No wonder the place is popular.

Naengmyeon

The naengmyeon that comes out is quite accomplished. It is sweet for a Pyongyang-style one, but if this is what you get as the closing noodle course at a BBQ place, there is nothing more to ask for.

Bibim naengmyeon

I did not try this one myself, but it looks good.

We ate well and the bill was not all that expensive. It had been a while since I went to a dinner gathering like this, and it was nice. I found myself thinking I should get out to places like this whenever I get the chance.
