I went to a place called Ramen Gyoza Suzumechan.
The place
It has a somewhat old-school vibe, but the people working inside weren’t that old. Maybe it’s the second generation running it… I’m not really sure.
Interior
Clean and tidy.
Fried rice and stir-fried liver with garlic chives
Apparently the fried rice, crisped and slightly charred on the outside, is the popular item… The people at the other tables were ordering the ramen + fried rice set, but at my age eating that much is a bit much… So what I went with was the fried rice and the liver and chive stir-fry… and as you can see, it was a clean, mild flavor with nothing punchy about it… The fried rice also had a bit of a toasty, scorched note, like Korean nurungji. So it was tasty, sure, but it’s such a mild, understated flavor that I did wonder whether it was worth coming back for. In other words, if you live in this neighborhood it’s worth a visit, but it doesn’t feel like something you’d go out of your way to travel far for.
Interior
It does seem to be popular. Anyway, for me the location is awkward, and if it’s a similar kind of flavor, Tatsunoko Ramen is better, so I’ll probably end up going there instead…
