If you live in Incheon, you almost certainly have a memory or two tied to Songdo.. And Songdo has developed a lot lately, plus it now has a train station. So I went over for a look on the weekend.

I had no idea there was a place like this..

A coffee shop that looks pretty decent..

Kkomak Sikdang, the cockle restaurant

It is the place made famous by the Jangsa-ui Sin (God of Business) channel, and it turns out it is here in old Songdo.. There are not many people living around here, and it is hard to call this a proper commercial district.. To even think of opening a cockle restaurant in a spot like this.. that takes real courage.. On the other hand, being promoted on a channel like that means plenty of people come over from new Songdo and elsewhere nearby, and I suspect that is how it has survived..

Songdo Toast

This place seems to be famous as well.. A neighbourhood with some history always seems to have a good spot or two.

This place has not changed one bit since I was a kid.. It almost feels like stepping into a time machine..

An Islamic restaurant

You see a lot of places like this around here. It seems foreign residents are settling into the old town.

Apartment blocks

Go just a little way from old Songdo and there is a whole forest of apartment blocks.. I wonder whether old Songdo will be redeveloped one day too..

Around Long Beach

It is still pretty desolate.

They say the sea breeze is bad for buildings, but the view really is unbeatable. Makuhari had this same feel to it.
