Pizzeria del Popolo in Ilsan

There’s a famous pizza place called Popolo near Jeongbalsan Station in Ilsan, or near Lake Park if you prefer. The line was way too long to eat in, so I got it to go instead.

A place like this

Pizzeria del popolo.

These days everywhere uses a reservation-alert system, so even when it looks empty there are plenty of people waiting.

The menu

Pizzeria del popolo.

Turns out it’s an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria.

Inside

Pizzeria del popolo.

There’s a wood-fired oven in the middle.

Neapolitan pizza competition award

Pizzeria del popolo.

That’s what it says, anyway.

The oven up close

Pizzeria del popolo.

A pizzeria that really runs at full tilt.

Popolo Classica

Pizzeria del popolo.

I ate this one on the way home while it was still hot, and it was incredibly good. If you’re going to do wood-fired pizza, this is about the level you need to hit, I’d say. The dough isn’t the chewy kind but the fluffy kind, though, and while that’s easier to eat, it isn’t the style I like.

Bismarck

Pizzeria del popolo.

This one does lose a bit of its appeal once it cools, as you’d expect.

Gorgonzola e Fico (with fig)

Pizzeria del popolo.

This one was just so-so too

Calzone

Pizzeria del popolo.

This pizza was a little on the salty side, but maybe that’s why it worked so well with beer even after it had cooled.

Now that I know it’s a seriously good pizzeria, next time I’ll either take it out and eat it at Lake Park, or wait my turn and eat inside.
