I’d arranged to meet up with some friends in Myeongdong. We had to work out where to eat, and this place looked like the best bet. Deeper inside Myeongdong the prices are high and you can’t be too confident about the ingredients, but just crossing one street over seems to make everything a lot more reasonable.
A place like this
It’s squarely a restaurant for tourists, but by the same token that makes it an easy place for tourists to go.
The menu
The banchan
Looks like ice cream, but it’s pumpkin with blueberry cream
Ogyeopsal (skin-on pork belly)
In great shape.
Nakji (long-arm octopus)
If you’re a tourist in Korea, you’ve got to have one of these.
Beef tongue
There aren’t many places that cut it this thick, and honestly it tasted really good – I just didn’t expect this much of it to turn up. If I’d known, I’d have ordered a smaller portion and tried some other cuts too.
Grilled up nicely
Jeon (Korean pancake)
If you’re a tourist, you’ve got to order this as well.
Samgyeopsal
The samgyeopsal was good too. Overall we ate well and it didn’t cost all that much. The service was friendly, and it seemed like just the right place for a get-together near Myeongdong.
