The Babbi cafe on the Kamo River in Kyoto

There is a gelateria run by Babbi along the Kamo River, which runs through Kyoto, so I stopped by.

The place

Babbi is of course known for its chocolate. It is a brand you see all the time in department stores, so it is not exactly anything special, but it is right on the Kamo River, so I paid a visit.

The menu

Gelato

There are all sorts of flavors.

Shaved ice

My eating schedule was packed this time around, so I kept dessert modest too.

The place

After ordering I moved out to the terrace, where you can eat looking out over the banks of the Kamo River. Sitting on the terrace costs an extra 550 yen, and most of the foreign visitors paid up and came out, while the Japanese customers mostly did not. Might as well spend freely while the yen is weak.

Strawberry and pistachio gelato

Better than merely decent. When you order a cup they stick a heart-shaped wafer into it, and letting you taste what the waffle cone is like is a good idea. That was always my one complaint about ordering a cup.

Chocolate and cookie gelato

Maybe because chocolate is what this place does in the first place, the chocolate flavor is rich.

Lemon soda

Nice and refreshing.

The Kamo River

The weather was good and the view was good, so I had a lovely time. Is this what capitalism tastes like..

Sweets

Only the people sitting on the terrace get to pick out a sweet, it turns out. That was a nice touch as well. Well, I do not know whether I will be back, but the terrace on the Kamo River is worth experiencing once.
