I heard a decent place had opened in Arai, Kosai, so I went to have a look.
Here it is.
Everyone is far too good at interiors these days.
The menu
Oddly enough, the exterior says cafe, but the menu is packed with the sort of thing middle-aged blokes go for: motsunabe (offal hotpot), Nagasaki sara-udon, hormone (grilled offal) set meals and so on. And you can have dessert on top of that. A curious concept.
Inside
Tell me this was a specialty tea cafe and I would believe you.
Inside
Starting with a juice
Shirasu-don, a rice bowl topped with whitebait
It comes out looking neat and tidy.
Stir-fried gopchang (beef intestines)
This really is proper grilled offal. Tastes good, too.
Karaage
This was good as well. High-calorie food at a stylish cafe, of all things..
They sell soft-serve cones for takeout too.
Not that there is much point carrying one out, though. We were getting around by car, and dropping it inside would have been a disaster..
Strawberry cheesecake and milk sherbet for dessert
This was really nicely done too. I suspect milk is where their strength lies.
A traditional event in Arai
No idea what it was, but something was going on, so I took a photo.
