Over in Dongdaemun there is the famous Waglewagle Jokbal, one of Seoul’s three great jokbal places or something like that, though I am not really sure.

There are seats to eat in here, but apparently they usually send you over to the annex. I suspect that is because business is good. The jokbal prices are very reasonable. Reasonable enough that you doubt your own eyes and wonder whether the price is right. There is bibimbap on the menu instead of makguksu, and the fact that they only open from 3 pm is a bit unusual too.

Anyway, if you go to the main branch you can get it to take out.

Since 1975, so by now it is a place with almost fifty years behind it. Staying in business this long means the proof of the taste is already done, I would say.

The annex
The annex is right next door, and it too turned out to be on the shabby side. There were quite a lot of people in though. Honestly, if it had been a bit tidier I was thinking of coming back with friends, but with this kind of atmosphere it will have to be with people from work..

The taste lives up to the reputation. There are plenty of places doing it well these days, but even among those it is good enough to be talked about as one of Seoul’s big three. That said, the jokbal at Seongsu or Yeongdong is about this good too, so I think the best move is just to eat at whichever one is nearest to you.
