Golden Jersey Milk
I never expected a milk like this to come out here in Korea, and the price wasn’t bad either. (Not that it’s cheap..) It’s richer and nuttier than regular milk — close to Pauls Gold, I’d say.. If you like this style of milk, it’s worth a recommendation.
A cup noodle collab with Hanam Pig
They put lard in the broth, so it really does taste a lot like actual samgyeopsal — tasty.. The toppings had a pretty decent texture too.. The one thing is the sweetish broth, which feels like the limit of a Japanese-style cup noodle. Still, it’s odd that a collab like this happened in Japan and not in Korea.
Matsuya’s Original Beef Curry
It’s a fairly strong old-school yoshoku-diner curry, the kind that seems fine to have once in a while.
Diget
It keeps for over a year, so it’s a good biscuit to have around as emergency rations. I get a craving for it now and then, and having it after a long gap, it really is sweet.
Ace, Basque cheesecake flavor
This one was way too sweet as well.. Then again, there must be people who like this kind of sweetness..
Kloud Clear
It tastes like bad beer. If you pick it up on a buy-one-get-one, it’d do as a stand-in for sparkling water.
“This much is just yakgwa”..
It turned out to be a more edible yakgwa ice cream than it looks. As long as you have the cinnamon aroma and that chewy cookie feel, reproducing the yakgwa flavor doesn’t seem all that hard.
Donbei Seafood Champon Udon
They advertise it as seafood for summer, and the champon flavor is decent, but it’s piping hot, so it doesn’t really feel like something to eat in summer.
Galaxy Express 999 beer
I bought it at Lawson, and it turned out to be a rare find. The taste is nothing much, but when Maetel offers you a glass, there’s no way not to buy it.
Shin Ramyun Red
Too spicy for me.
Cup Noodle Seafood Gochujang Jjigae
Sweetish, with the umami of the seafood coming through nicely.
Choi.dot truffle cream ravioli
The taste is fine, but I don’t think I’d have bought it if it hadn’t been on sale.
Jeonju-style bibimbap gimbap
A slightly spicy, oily gimbap — very good.
Jeju Milk fresh cream bread
It looks like it was benchmarked against the Yonsei Milk cream bread, but it was just so-so..
Green onion Yeol Ramyun
It was pretty spicy.. I think I’d better stop taking on spicy flavors from now on if I can help it.
Häagen-Dazs Pierre Hermé
There are macarons embedded in it, so it’s a fun flavor, but the price is far too high. About two or three times what it costs in Japan, it seems.. This is the sort of spending better done in Japan.
The Jinrui Mina Menrui cup noodle
It doesn’t reproduce the flavor of the main shop, but the toppings are generous and it was tasty for a cup noodle. There’s talk of a collab with an izakaya in Sindang-dong, and rumors it might expand into Korea, but I’m not sure how well Heisei-era sensibilities will land here..
