For a while after Five Guys opened, the line was insanely long. I booked ahead in the morning, so I was able to get in.
The waiting list already closed in the daytime..
This place is not exactly cheap, and yet people just keep pouring in.. it makes me wonder whether there were always this many people who love good food. I checked while I waited, and the queue shrinks by about 100 parties an hour, and once it is down to the last 30 or so they suddenly call you, so it is better to be there ahead of time.
The kitchen
That is a lot of staff

Peanuts
These are the famous peanuts.. apparently you can eat as many as you like.
So, one bagful..
More bits of shell fall off than I expected, so I imagine the cleaning up is a chore. And they are not just roasted peanuts either, they are very heavily salted. Salty enough that eating them without a beer is nearly impossible. So that is why they hand them out without limit..
Milkshake
I added bacon and salted caramel to my milkshake, and it was pleasantly sweet without feeling sticky, and cold enough to freeze your hand, so it was delicious. The bacon was crisp like a cracker and went surprisingly well with the shake. That said, a paper straw in a milkshake is a bit much. It has me wondering whether I should start carrying a stainless steel straw around.
Fries
The fries are the fluffy, steamed-potato style. They would work fine as a drinking snack, and even though I ordered the small size, the amount was way, way too much. There is ketchup, but dipping them in the milkshake was good too.
The burger
I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with the toppings all the way, and while the burger itself is well made, the standard toppings cannot cut through how rich the patty is.. a combination of fresher toppings suited to Korean tastes would have satisfied me more.. Another plus is that even if there is too much to finish, the food is already wrapped up, so it is easy to just carry it home as is.. If I end up visiting again I think I could order a little better, but this time I stuffed myself on nothing but the good stuff, so I probably do not need to go back for a while..
The inside
I think something like jalapenos would have been a good addition.
The second floor
It seems to be mostly people in their twenties who come here, and I am so envious, wondering where they all find the time and the money.
