Sushiro is, to put it plainly, a very ordinary conveyor-belt sushi chain. It is just a chain, so I figured we could turn up whenever and be fine – which was naive, because when we got there the queue was long..
Inside
We put our name down and waited about 30 minutes, I think. The turnover is fast. You can order at the table on a tablet and whatever you order arrives in no time, so the whole operation is very well optimised.
The view outside
Nationwide chains like Sushiro are usually out on a big main road.
Squid
At around 1,000 won a plate the price is kind and the quality is not bad at all. Maybe because everything turns over so quickly, it was all nice and fresh. The pieces are on the small side, of course, so some people would prefer a bigger cut – but when the whole family comes to eat, not everyone wants the big size..
Mackerel

Engawa has that nice chew to it, and it tastes great..

Sawara
Sawara – Spanish mackerel is a real favourite of mine, so it was a nice surprise to find it here as sushi.

Shellfish is good eaten as sushi too.

Asparagus, probably.
Nodoguro
I was amazed they even had nodoguro, and it tastes exactly the way nodoguro should. I thought it was something you only got at proper high-end sushi restaurants, so I never expected to see it at Sushiro..
Prawn tempura
It is only prawn tempura and it looks like nothing special, but it comes out freshly fried and it is seriously good.
Grilled mackerel
There is a lot of sushi here of the kind middle-aged guys love.
Corn gunkan roll
You wonder what it is even supposed to taste like, but it is sweet and it made a good finish.
We ate our fill of all kinds of neta and it came to about 1,500 yen a head. Honestly, how does that price even make sense.. Going to Japan and doing nothing but Sushiro would already be worth the trip..
