I heard a decent sundaeguk place had opened in Yeonnam-dong, so I went and checked it out.

It’s on the road running from Yeonnam-dong toward Gajwa-dong, and this neighborhood has sprouted an absurd number of good restaurants.. It’s like all of Seoul is slowly turning into Hongdae, I guess..

The room is neat and tidy, but as you’d expect of a sundaeguk joint, it was full of middle-aged guys.

Sundaeguk

The broth is clean, but the portion is a little small and the meat comes finely chopped. Given the price, that’s only to be expected. Still, I think it would have suited my taste better if the meat had been cut a bit bigger. Now that I roughly know the style, I should be able to order better next time. Anyway, something I felt again this time: once word gets around that there’s a good restaurant in some place you’ve never heard of, that neighborhood is already well into becoming Hongdae, so there’s something fun waiting when you go and poke around. I’m curious how it’ll have changed by the time I visit next.
