After a good meal, we set off for our first destination, Arashiyama.

The hotel is right in front of Kennin-ji, which is famous for its ceiling painting. I would have dropped in if I’d had the time, but not on this trip.. Kyoto really does have far too many places worth visiting.

Looking at how immaculately the garden is kept, that is clearly no ordinary skill. A garden doesn’t turn out beautiful just by being left alone.

Anyway, so you ride from Kawaramachi Station on Shijo to a place called Katsura, then carry on to Arashiyama, and you get there in about an hour.
This is inside Katsura Station, and it has a bit of a Taisho-era feel to it.

But yeah.. what with running late over the meal and having booked lunch far too early, I was hopelessly short on time to wander around Arashiyama..
