There are so many izakaya in Shimbashi that there is no way to remember them all. Tamuro is one of them, and it is popular less for the izakaya side than for its seriously good ramen.
The place
It is on the second floor, and if it were not for the ramen I probably would never have known it existed. The atmosphere is that of an ordinary izakaya.
Menu
This time I went for the most basic one, the Tsugaru niboshi chuka soba.
Inside
It is an izakaya, but there are boxes stacked up and a pot for the ramen and so on.
Kaisendon
The biggest thing about this place is that the kaisendon you can add on for 500 yen is almost specialist-shop quality. The ikura glistens and there is a good variety of fish, so it is a joy to eat.
Ramen
The quality of this ramen is seriously high, proper orthodox niboshi. This alone would be enough to earn it a reputation as a great shop. What on earth happened at this izakaya to make them start making ramen like this… probably COVID.
Water cup
The kind of water cup an izakaya uses.
Sign
I have been to Shimbashi so many times, and yet this was the day I first learned that a place like this existed.
A Shimbashi alley
For some reason they even sell chamoe, Korean melons
They look like they were imported from Korea.
Ayu Ramen +
It had been a while since I went to Toranomon, and there are new places that have opened and places that have gone. I was glad this one is still going.
