Tigré Seoul in Yeonsinnae

I heard a shop specialising in really good tigrés had opened, so I made the trip out to Yeonsinnae.

This kind of place

Honestly, even with a map in hand I walked right past it. It just isn’t the sort of street where you’d expect high-end desserts.. it’s inside the market..

The display

Anyway, they’ve done a lovely job with the interior.

What a sense of style..

I do wonder where they find pieces like this.. maybe they have someone like Goro-san around..

The tigrés I ordered

Plain / macadamia / cranberry. I skipped the matcha since I can’t eat it.. the plate is lovely too.

Two to take away, one to eat in.

Look at that gleam. What struck me on eating them: a typical tigré has a small dab of chocolate and a cute little profile that goes well with tea, but Tigré Seoul’s tigré has a big generous disc of chocolate and, like a financier, plenty of butter, so it has a real chew to it. That makes it great with whisky, and it stands on its own as a complete thing. Either style of tigré is at a high level for me, so I enjoyed every bite, but if you buy one expecting the usual tigré you might be a little puzzled. Either way, it’s a happy thing that Seoul keeps gaining dessert shops that would hold their own anywhere in the world.
