Geummiok tteokbokki and gimmari

Gimmari

Geummiok’s gimmari is really good. I pan-fried it, and it was so good it vanished in seconds. The nutritional balance is not great, admittedly.. but once in a while it should be fine. And for some reason, carbs fill me up right away these days. Must be my age..

Tteokbokki

Tteokbokki is one of those things where the style splits opinion.. and honestly I am not that big on tteokbokki, so I cannot really tell how good this one is.

Anchovy kalguksu

The broth was refreshing, as I recall.

CHOI.DOT scallop and basil pasta

Carbs, garlic, chilli and an explosion of umami — it has everything Koreans love packed into it. I suppose that is what happens when a chef makes it.

Mingles snow crab jang shrimp and squid ink pasta

The shrimp in it are nice and big, and the ingredients are good too.

Hwangtak gopchang haejangguk from Noransang Sogalbi

Even though it is a gopchang haejangguk, there is quite a lot of beef in it, so it tastes a bit like yang gomtang too. Nicely made.

Pyongyangjip yang gomtang

At Pyongyangjip in Samgakji, yang gomtang is the signature dish. It does not seem much different from eating it at the restaurant. The tripe was so fresh it surprised me.

Miro Sikdang marinated pork moksal

I cooked it myself.. but it does not quite come out like the one you eat at Miro Sikdang.. grilling is a skill too, after all..

Pyongyangjip yang fried rice

Fried rice is hard to make badly, but this one is definitely good. Only.. it needs a sprinkle of gim powder to really come together, and I forgot to buy any.. And it costs a fair bit, so I am not sure it is worth the price.

Kurly fish cakes

It was just okay, I think..

FAGP ragù pasta

Hmm.. I was a little disappointed.. their other pastas might be better..

Whisky

Korea’s whisky market seems to have grown too. Apparently queueing up at opening time is not a rare sight these days..

Tod man goong

This is Tuk Tuk Noodle Thai’s HMR. The flavour is good, but I would rather go and eat it at the restaurant. It is a bit awkward to eat on my own..
