The queue at Grill Kodakara was pretty long. It was nice that you can just turn up without a reservation, but even though lunchtime was already over I think we stood in line for about an hour. That is how popular it is.
The place
The menu
A standard yoshoku menu.
The table
The water glass
The way they pour the water into this glass is an art. A member of staff with the aura of a general manager comes over holding one of those extremely long-spouted pots you would normally only see in China, stretches his arm right out and pours – the presence is something else. You cannot help being impressed.
Pickles
Cutlery
The front entrance
The ceiling
The kitchen
Ham and egg sandwich
The ham is thick and tastes really good. There seems to be something special about it.
Crab cream croquettes
To be honest, I have been to plenty of yoshoku places at this level, so to me it feels fairly ordinary as high-end ones go.
Cut open..
Omurice
The omurice at Kurofune-tei is plenty good too, so it is hard to say there is something here you can only get here..
Cut open
But the service, or should I call it the hospitality, has that Kyoto feeling to it. That is exactly why people make a trip out of coming here, I suppose. So if I have the time I would like to visit again.
