Hotel Hatoya in Kyoto

In Kyoto I picked a place to stay near the station. That has its upsides and its downsides. Shijo or Karasuma, where most of the sights are clustered, is the better base if you’re going to do serious sightseeing, but on a short trip like this one, near Kyoto Station works just fine. On the last day you can leave your bags, wander around, then swing by the hotel in the evening to pick them up on your way out.

For somewhere this close to the station, it’s nicely done up.

The layout is decent, but there’s nothing much to look at even if you open the window…

I’ve seen it so often by now that it feels like an old friend.
