There is a famous, pricey Japanese restaurant in Kyoto called Wakuden, and Hashitate is its casual version. Budget about 3,000 yen per person. The nice thing is that you can drop in the moment you arrive at Kyoto Station.
The entrance
A cup of tea
A glass of water
The kids’ set
It comes out looking rather lovely. The warabimochi looked good enough that I wanted some myself.
The kinmedai set meal
It arrives looking clean and neat. Very Kyoto.
This soup in particular is good.
You get to pick which soup you want.
This is a set meal too.
Well.. it is not bad.. or rather, I should probably call it good, but the fish in the main dish is far too small and the proportion of carbs is high. If that is how it is going to be, they should let you add another main.. the value for money is a bit disappointing.
Sansho pepper oil
This was so good that I bought a bottle to give as a gift. Something like sansho goes really well with oil.
