Supermarket Food, Winter 2021

Just a few short notes.. I doubt anyone else blogs this lazily..

Emperor Xiaolongbao

Mart 202111

Mimatsu Foods seems to make good quality stuff..

Hanabatake Ranch Camembert

Mart 202111

Bite-sized Camembert.. nothing particularly special about the flavour..

La France

Mart 202111

This is my favourite kind of pear. Asian pears have a crisp, refreshing taste, but European pears have a silky one. They aren’t easy to come by in Korea, so eating plenty of them while I’m in Japan is money well spent.

Tokachi Fresh Mozzarella

Mart 202111

Japanese dairy products really are excellent quality, and I suspect it’s because they’re so fresh.

Le Lectier

Mart 202111

An ultra-premium La France that runs about 500 yen apiece. They’re grown in Niigata, and apparently they’re hard to find even in France. A sweet aroma rises up at you, the flesh is sweet and the juice runs everywhere. They start out green, and you ripen them at room temperature for some 40 days until they turn completely yellow before eating. I had no idea a super-luxury fruit like this existed. If you like European pears, I really recommend trying one.

Super La France

Mart 202111

Apparently they pick out the especially delicious ones among the La France pears grown in Yamagata Prefecture and give them the name Super La France. Niigata’s Le Lectier has a sugar content of 15-16 or higher, while Super La France is 14 or higher. Le Lectier is a cut above.. but even 14 is plenty sweet and tasty.

Burrata truffle

Mart 202111

Burrata is always a good idea, and with truffle added it made for a really delicious salad.

Frozen japchae

Mart 202111

Just pop it in the microwave and it’s done. Convenient and tasty too. It makes me wonder why we don’t have anything like this in Korea..

Buri (yellowtail)

Mart 202111

Now and then I grill fish too. It’s an everyday Japanese meal.

Frozen acqua pazza

Mart 202111

For frozen food, it’s decent enough.
