Ddangko Chamsutgui is, well.. such a famous place that there doesn’t seem to be much for me to explain.. I had wanted to go plenty of times myself, but I had nobody to make the trip out to Wangsimni with, so I had given up on it — and then branches opened in Gangnam and at Gangnam-gu Office.
A place like this
The Gangnam branch feels like it’s actually closer to Yangjae, if anything.. but either way it is within walking distance of Gangnam. The queue is long, of course..
Side dishes
Simple, as you’d expect from a famous place.
Pork shoulder
The colour alone is a work of art.
The grill plate
This grill plate is what you’d call their signature.
Biji jjigae (soybean pulp stew)
Grill it properly..
and the juices burst in your mouth. I wondered whether meat like this had ever existed. It turns out to be a place I have to visit regularly just for this pork.
Complimentary jeon
This was worth eating too.
The menu
Simple, but it looks boiled down to nothing but dishes that are good, one by one.
Samgyeopsal and galmaegisal
These were tasty all right, but they felt a bit weaker than the pork shoulder.
Bibim guksu
Slushy-ice noodles
Cold enough to make your teeth ache, and the noodles have a good spring to them. Famous places really are different somehow.
