Here is a pile of leftover photos of things I bought at convenience stores.
Ramen Kai
“Kai” can mean to renew, and it can also mean clam. Well, it was not bad.
Maguro Zanmai tuna sushi gummies
I bought them because they seemed like a novelty..
They really do look exactly like sushi.
The taste is just gummy, though..
Ippudo Akamaru Shinaji cup ramen
This one is a cup ramen with a really high level of fidelity. Good for a bowl whenever you are missing Japan.
Butazono
It is the instant ramen that comes closest to jiro-style ramen.
So I made it..
Hmm.. compared to real jiro-style it falls a little short, but it is about as close as you can get..
Menya Itto’s rich seafood and chicken paitan rice
Ebisoba Ichigen’s rich shrimp miso maze-soba
It was not bad at all. Since it is maze-soba, there is no helping that the shrimp flavor comes through a bit weaker than in the regular ramen.
Sugar Butter Tree, Setouchi lemon & honey
The sugar butter sandwich cookies are good, and this one has a bit more lemon in it.
Shikuwasa throat lozenges
I eat a lot of throat lozenges to top up on carbs while I work. I bought a big pile again this time, and, well, they were just okay..
Kawasaki Daishi’s kaden sekidome throat lozenges
I bought them because they were unusual.. but the ones I always eat are better.. there is a reason the popular ones are popular..
Komeda’s Coffee melon soda & lemon squash gummies
Melon soda and lemon squash are junky enough on their own, and then they turn them into gummies.. very Nagoya.. so I tried them, and they were surprisingly good.
Honey kumquat throat lozenges
Kumquat throat lozenges
Vegetable curry with three kinds of beans
These days the vegetable versions never feel like anything is missing. And that will only get more true.
Soy meat, mince type, dried
When work gets busy I sometimes cannot even order groceries and the days just slip by, so I tend to keep emergency food stocked at all times. I tried this one.. the taste is not bad, but because it is the mince type there is something a little lacking in the chew.. anyway, it keeps for an extremely long time, so having one around would make a good substitute for when the milk or eggs run out at home.
Honey lemon C throat lozenges
Shentoujiang
It is a Taiwanese-style soy milk soup, and the soy milk is packed with vegetables, so it works nicely for breakfast.
Bouillabaisse from Furansu Chubo
French-style seafood stew, I suppose? I could make it at home with no trouble.
Asakura sansho curry
Honestly, these regional specialty curries are almost never especially good.. unless it is something like a beef curry.. still, if you like sansho, it was worth a taste.
Sanratan hot and sour soup
Not many Korean-style Chinese restaurants serve hot and sour soup, but at Japanese-style Chinese places sanratan is standard. Good for when you are craving something sour.
Onion miso cream soup
It looks like some kind of coffee cup, and even the foam feels close to a cappuccino. It was a fun soup.
