Geummiok in Seongsu

Geummiok is a tteokbokki shop that is already famous both on Instagram and on Market Kurly. The owner is someone I have come to know in passing, so there was no way I could not stop by.Let me say up front that I have hardly ever gone out hunting for great tteokbokki, so I do not really know what makes a tteokbokki objectively good. On top of that, tteokbokki is nutritionally skewed to an extreme toward carbs, and it is sweet and spicy, so it is not exactly a healthy food. But if you think that way, then rice is a problem, noodles are a problem, naengmyeon is a problem, jeyuk-bokkeum is a problem, and there is barely any Korean food left that is not a problem.. So a certain Mr. Hwang’s remarks are both right and wrong..So the best we can do is to make sure we always drop a boiled egg into our tteokbokki..Crossing the bridge..

Changing every time you come might be the defining trait of Seongsu.. which is probably why I end up visiting more often.A place like this

Rice-cake tteokbokki is the main event. I prefer rice tteok to wheat tteok.. and the reason is nothing special: wheat tteok only tastes right if the timing is exact, while rice tteok holds together even when you cook it roughly..The kitchen

It is not easy for me to judge how a tteokbokki tastes, but this one seems well made. My own preference is for slightly thinner tteok.. Maybe people simply think the tteokbokki they ate as children is the best..Odeng

This odeng gets a lot of praise, but I could not quite tell. I think I need to eat it a few more times before passing judgment.Yaki mandu

These mandu were as crisp as real pastry, more dessert-like and tastier than most croissants. I suppose food like this comes out precisely because she throws herself so passionately into developing the menu.If they had gimmari or twigim, it would work as drinking food too, but they are probably getting there? I am looking forward to seeing what bunsik items come next, and to whatever they do after that.
