Tomoean, a taiyaki shop in Asagaya

There is a taiyaki specialist in Asagaya called Tomoean. Like Naniwaya or Sharaku, it sells taiyaki filled with bean paste all the way down to the tail. Is it worth traveling all the way to Asagaya for? Not really… but I ended up there anyway…

Here it is…

The menu has more variety than at your average taiyaki shop. Taiyaki no hiraki, a taiyaki split open and baked a second time, is a fun idea.

After enjoying it, I took a lap around the neighborhood.

Asagaya has an incredible number of places to drink: izakaya, yakitori joints, you name it. I didn’t count them properly, but it looked like a three-digit number. There might even be more than in Shinbashi.

Apparently it’s a café with a monstrous set of speakers.

Even Asagaya has places like this…

Asagaya turned out to be a really fun place. If I were in my twenties I’d probably be out for a drink here every night. Why am I only finding out about this now…
