While I was at Tokyo Station I happened to spot an Ogawaken shop, so I picked up some raisin sandwiches.
The shop
Ogawaken is famous for its raisin sandwiches, but there are actually several different lineages. There’s Paris Ogawaken in Shimbashi, plus a bunch of other Ogawakens. The Kamakura one has its own style too.
To go with whisky..
The whisky, one called Sherry Bomb, was, well.. a bit ordinary for its reputation. Anyway..
The contents
Cross section
The character really is a bit different. The rum the raisins are soaked in is different, and the butter varies a little too. This one is on the lighter side, while the other Ogawakens are, how should I put it, a bit heavier..
Strawberry almonds
I bought them because they looked pretty, and it turned out to be a great call.
Like this..
The almonds are caramelized and coated in strawberry chocolate, so they’re pretty, sure, but they’re also fantastic with whisky. I want to bring some home again next time.
