Okutone, a Soba Shop in Shinbashi

Okutone is a standing soba shop in Shinbashi.

It looks roughly like this..

Okutone

There’s no line to be seen, but the turnover is incredible. Well.. that’s how every standing soba shop is, isn’t it.

Maitake tempura soba

Okutone

It’s soba topped with a tempura of maitake mushroom, and I think it was around 500 yen. Quite a generous portion too. The sheer size makes it a great one for Instagram..

Noodles

Okutone

It’s a cheap standing soba shop, but the noodles are first-rate. No wonder it’s popular in Shinbashi.

Top it with beni shoga (pickled red ginger) and it’s a real treat.

Okutone

It amazed me that you can have a gourmet experience even at a tiny standing soba shop. I’d like to come back once I’ve done a full round of the good eats in Shinbashi. Though it feels like there are only a few places left..
