Maison Givrée

Maison Givrée is in Chuo-Rinkan, about an hour out from central Tokyo. If you know, you know: Chuo-Rinkan is the terminus you keep seeing on the boards while waiting for a Hanzomon Line train. It’s not often you go out of your way to the end of a subway line, but this time I made up my mind to do it.

This is the place.

Cakes

Maison givree

They only use delicious seasonal fruit, so the cakes themselves are nothing to worry about; the problem is having to carry them all the way back to Tokyo. There were so many kinds that choosing wasn’t easy. It would be nice to come with a few people and eat inside.

The cakes were really pretty.

Lots of varieties.

Once again choosing wasn’t easy, but they had a sweet potato shochu ice cream, so I ordered that and strawberry.

They even have Tomica candles. The kind of thing kids would love.

Today’s gelato

Maison givree

The sweet potato shochu gelato was truly a work of art. There’s a faint whiff of shochu, and with real sweet potato in it there’s a gentle sweetness too. The strawberry was as juicy as I expected. I don’t know when I’ll get to taste gelato this good again.

The cake tasted just as I expected.

Tigré

I bought one of each kind, and they’re all fine, but the basic tigré is still the most satisfying.
