Hakejoyu Noriben Yamanobori at Ginza Six

Went to Ginza Six for the first time in a while, and…

A pop-up by Échiré’s second brand

They had all sorts of desserts you can’t get at the main Échiré shop. I had other plans that day, so I skipped it. It’s a limited-time thing, so who knows when or where it’ll pop up next.

Today’s destination

hakejoyu noriben yamanobori

Hakejoyu Noriben Yamanobori is a mouthful of a name… “Noriben” means a totally ordinary bento with a sheet of nori laid over the rice. This place took that humble noriben and pushed the flavor to the limit, and it drew an explosive response when Ginza Six opened. These days you can buy one without queuing.

There are three kinds of bento: Mountain, Sea and Field. I picked up the Mountain and the Sea.

Mountain

Cold rice normally doesn’t taste good, but this was seasoned so well that I wolfed the whole thing down. No wonder people line up for it.

Sea

Polished this one off too. A 1,000-yen bento that made me feel something like the quiet strength of Japan.
