Because of G-STAR the KTX trains to Busan were nearly sold out, so for the trip down I took a late KTX the night before and stayed one night at a motel in Busan.

The room

Every hotel in central Busan was fully booked, so the fallback was a motel. A room this size was 46,000 won.. I picked a well-reviewed motel on Yanolja (a Korean booking app), and they bumped me up a tier, so I got to sleep in an amazing room. I had no idea Korean motels were at this level.. Airbnb would weep..

I had to have bokguk (blowfish soup) for breakfast, so first I took a taxi over to Gwangalli. If I’d booked a place in Gwangalli I’d have saved the taxi fare.. but the motel prices there were a bit steep for that..

While wandering around I also scoped out where the daegu-tang (cod soup) place is. According to the taxi driver, the original shop got famous and a ton of copycats sprang up around it..

The wind in Busan isn’t as cold as in Seoul, which was nice. Warm and toasty..

There were way too many people. Most of them were middle and high school kids.. It was not the moment for a leisurely bowl of bokguk.. On top of that, once you’re in Gwangalli, catching a taxi out is like finding a needle in a haystack. Didn’t see that coming.. If you want bokguk, you’d better book a place in Gwangalli and take a bus to G-STAR or something.
