Hanya Kuta, Ginza

Hanya Kuta is a Japanese restaurant specializing in Kyushu cuisine, tucked between Ginza and Tsukiji. I came here for lunch a while back, but the vibe is a bit different in the evening.

Today’s fish

kuta

Nice and fresh.

Otoshi (the appetizer)

kuta

Being Ginza, it was pretty classy. The prices were Ginza prices too…

Highball

kuta

Sashimi platter

kuta

Great quality.

Tofu salad

kuta

It was on the recommended list so I gave it a try, and it was really good. The tofu is from Kyoto and the vegetables were fresh too.

Shirako (cod milt)

kuta

Ara-ni (simmered fish head)

kuta

Shochu

kuta

Fried chicken

kuta

Sazae no tsuboyaki (turban shell grilled in its shell)

kuta

The soy sauce was heavy, so it was just so-so… I think it would have tasted better as sashimi.

Kinmedai, if I remember right…

kuta

Ankimo (monkfish liver)

kuta

Onigiri

kuta

A real treat.

All that food came to about 10,000 yen a head.

Round two at Caperdonich

Chichibu IPA Cask and Port Ellen

kuta

Port Ellen’s funky, peaty flavor is as superb as ever…

Chieftain’s Cigar Malt 20 Year

kuta

Apparently it’s not sold to the general public… The 19-year I had before was a revelation, but this one, hmm… Maybe my palate has changed…

Tanmen Shakishaki

kuta

To settle my stomach at the end, I had a bowl of tanmen and headed home.
