While searching for good places to eat in Tsukiji, I came across a curious spot. There is a shop in Tsukiji that sells something called an Ultra Vanilla cream puff.
Takatanido
I showed up at nine, only to find they open at ten. So I came back in the evening.
The sign
Seems to be fairly well known.
Inside
Hard at work baking. Since the plan to bring in 300,000 foreign students, you really do see a lot more foreigners in Japan. Jobs like this are almost all done by foreigners now.
The counter
It is tiny.
Financiers sold by the gram
They sell them in 250-gram lots. They are not amazingly delicious, but maybe because they are so small and easy to pop in your mouth, I just kept eating them. Addictive.
Ultra Vanilla cream puff
Apparently they use ten times the vanilla of a regular cream puff.
It really is packed in there.
Part of it is that all that vanilla makes it delicious, but for some reason it was also incredibly light. I ate three in one sitting and did not get tired of them at all. How on earth do they make it? A mystery.
