Odaiba in Early 2017: A Photo Dump

Since I’m not exactly a diligent blogger, here are some casual snapshots I’ve taken while living in Odaiba.

As you can see, the distortion in iPhone landscape shots is really distracting. The noise is bad too, and the blown-out highlights are painful to look at. I’ve never used a Pixel so I can’t say, but other phones aren’t hugely different either. Once I’ve got the money I’d love to jump straight to a Sony A7 series. Whether I’d ever have the time to actually carry an A7 around is another question, though.

Under construction

Tokyo’s waterfront is going to change a lot by 2020. Massive construction is underway all over the place.

Sunset

It has an autumn-like feel to it.

Ferris wheel

Sunset and sunrise are the best times for photos. Photography 101, really. Sometimes I think I should be running a photography class or something.

A high-rise apartment tower in Hamamatsucho

The clouds reflected in the glass looked so good I had to take a shot. Who on earth lives in buildings like this, I wonder~

Telecom Center

The building is impressive, but it’s tucked away in a corner of Odaiba and not easy to get to. There’s nothing to see even if you make it there… it’s basically a habitat for salarymen. Lately, though, a few good new restaurants have opened up, so it’s become worth the trip. If you think there’s nowhere decent to eat in Odaiba, do give it a visit. Detailed reviews another time…

Gundam

It’s in the middle of being dismantled right now.

Honestly, Tokyo’s weather is at its best in winter; spring through summer is just so-so. It only gets better once Golden Week is over. I doubt I’ll have many chances for landscape shots for a while.
