I’d heard that a ramen shop in Kinshicho with a broth made from sea bream was hugely popular, so I went to check it out.
The sky on the way
It was bitterly cold, but I put on gloves and a mask, stuck my newly bought AirPods in my ears, and marched on over.
On the way
Mengyo, shot from the queue
The line that day was absurdly long; apparently the place had just been on TV. Normally I’d have gone somewhere else, but I figured I wouldn’t have the time later, so I queued up and ate. And of course, that prediction came true..
Sea bream ramen
The sea bream broth was really well made, seriously high level. Instead of chashu they top it with roast beef, and that goes surprisingly well too.
Noodles
Mixing something into the noodles seems to be the trend these days. Ramen shops in particular tend to have long lines, but for the price, this level of satisfaction is honestly hard to find in any other food. I just wish I could do the queuing next time once the weather’s warmed up a bit..
All gone
The sea bream logo is cute; I do wonder where all these shops get their branding consulting done.
Mengyo’s ramen explainer
The dad jokes are out in full force.. (it ends with “ariga-tai”, thank you spelled with the character for sea bream)
Ramen alone felt like too little, so I stopped at the nearby Kameido Gyoza for a plate of gyoza.
Gyoza
They serve them pre-cooked, so they weren’t all that great, but hey, it’s still Kameido Gyoza. For freshly pan-fried ones you’d have to go to Kameido proper.
Heading home..
On the way back I got on the wrong bus and ended up lost.. The streets around here are a bit tricky..
