Somehow I ended up in Asakusa right after landing in Tokyo. Not that I had time for a meal or anything… but the weather was lovely, so I snapped a few photos.

Gonpachi

Gonpachi, the restaurant made famous by Kill Bill, has opened a branch near Azumabashi. Well… I guess that just shows how many tourists are pouring in these days.

Tokyo winters occasionally give you crisp, clear days like this, and everything you point the camera at comes out looking great.

I actually used to live in Asakusa, but I’ve never once made it into this shop. I’m sure the chance will come someday.

This one isn’t Asakusa but Hamamatsucho; it looked so cool that I had to take a shot.

Scenery alone would make for a dull post, so here’s a food photo too.

A ramen shop with a line out the door has opened in Shinonome, a neighborhood near Toyosu (so, head south from Ginza and you’re there), though its Tabelog score is still low. The name is Men Dining Hinai-jidori Paitan Ramen Shido, or 麺Dining比内地鶏白湯らーめん志道 in Japanese, which is quite a mouthful. Shido for short…

Paitan ramen

I’m usually not a fan of paitan because of that gamey chicken-stock smell, but this place had none of it and pulled off a flawless bowl. The seasonal toppings were delicious too, and the grilled eggplant in particular went perfectly with the soup. Paitan ramen shops like Kagari are all the rage in Tokyo these days, but if you ask me, this place serves the number one paitan in Tokyo. It’s far out and not the easiest to get to, but if you ever have the time, do pay it a visit.
