Super Steak and Hold Me Coffee in Pangyo, plus the HOHO Company Showroom

Working in development means I occasionally have reason to go to Pangyo. It’s a long way out, so if it happened often I’d be in trouble…

I asked someone who works in Pangyo where the good food is, and they pointed me to a place called Super Steak. It’s probably not exclusive to Pangyo, just a branch, but given Pangyo’s barren food scene, a branch is perfectly fine by me.

Kitchen

As everyone can tell, it seems to be modeled on Ikinari Steak. Well… as long as it tastes good, who cares…

Lunch steak

For 10,000 won, I couldn’t ask for more than this. Being Australian beef it’s less rich in flavor, but the portion and the cooking were both fine. Since it’s modeled on Ikinari Steak you have to sit on tall stools, but the Pangyo branch has tables too.

Beer

There was a cheap beer set, so I couldn’t not order it… I think it was 1,000 won a glass, but I don’t remember exactly.

After a good meal, we moved on to Hold Me Coffee. It’s a really famous place, but I’m only getting around to it now.

This is the place…

It’s smaller than I expected, with only a handful of tables. If you want to drink inside, you’ll have to wait a bit…

Hot pink grapefruit

It’s amazing that someone thought to turn grapefruit, with its almost perfectly bursting segments, into a hot juice. It’s so carefully prepared that there’s not a hint of off-flavor. If Starbucks and the other coffee chains compete on convenience, and places like Paik’s Coffee and Juicy compete on price, Hold Me competes straight up on taste. Making it this well, it’s no wonder business is booming. Pangyo folks are really lucky…

After a good lunch I parted ways with the developers and headed to Unjung-dong.

Seren

I’d heard rumors that business has been really good lately, but when I got there they said the chef had gone to the market. A bit disappointing not to see him, but it can’t be helped.

HOHO Company

Today’s main destination… in a way, I may have come to Pangyo not to see the developers but to stop by here: the HOHO Company showroom.

It’s a bedding specialist, roughly like this.

It’s a fairly niche shop, but they sell bedding with clean designs. You can’t really tell from just looking online, so I came to the showroom, and it lived up to expectations. It was also great to get advice on bedding from the staff. I asked for a mattress cover and a duvet/pillow set in completely custom sizes, and they sent me a perfectly fitting product within a few days, which I was so grateful for. Honestly, I think this quality at this price is only possible in Korea…
