I’d heard that the Hamhung naengmyeon at Taecheonok in Gwangmyeong was good, so I went to check it out.
This is the place.
It sits between two stations, so it’s a bit of a trek to get to. It’s not exactly next door, but Jeongin Myeonok is also famous for its noodles, so you could hit both in one go.
Table
The broth is tasty.
Menu
Prices are reasonable too, especially considering what Pyongyang naengmyeon goes for these days…
Mulbimyeon
I wanted both mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon, so I ordered the mulbimyeon, a half-and-half of the two, and it was good. The broth was well made and the noodles had a nice chewiness, so I left satisfied.
The only thing that bugged me was that the water was tap water. Still, the broth was so good that I didn’t really care. I was glad to confirm there’s a top-notch place tucked away in a spot like this. My one big regret is that I came alone and couldn’t order the mandu. I would have if I hadn’t had a second round planned for the evening… That day I went to the Modern PHP meetup for the first time in a while.
