Sashimi from Noryangjin and a House Party at a Friend’s Place

My first visit to Noryangjin since the new market building opened. Hmm… well… it wasn’t all that impressive. It didn’t have to be DDP-level, but they could have done a lot better, which is a bit of a shame.

The building

Being a weekend, the crowds were huge. It’s one of Seoul’s tourist spots now.

Live-fish sashimi from Hyeongje Susan

Hmm… this was the 60,000-won set for four, and it tasted better than it looked. Still, I felt like I’d fallen into a rut, so I wanted to try some other stalls too.

Sashimi turned into carpaccio

Should have sliced it a bit thinner…

Ajillo

Made with the shrimp and baby squid we’d bought at Noryangjin, and it was delicious. Food made with good ingredients can’t really go wrong…

The wines of the night

The one on the far right was fantastic value, but rumour has it it’s been discontinued…

Ribs came out too, as befits a house party…

Pasta loaded with porcini

noryangjin

Rich and intense. I really enjoyed it.

The dessert I brought out

noryangjin

A tasty little snack.

Taiwanese castella, all the rage these days

noryangjin

Hmm… I prefer the Japanese kind… this one felt too moist and sticky…
