Without any plan, I ended up having dinner in Shinbashi. Maybe because it was a Friday night, every place was packed, but after a lap around the area I found a free table at a place called Makochan and walked in knowing nothing about it. I figured a place doing business at this scale in Shinbashi couldn’t be bad.
The front entrance
A very ordinary, very Shinbashi kind of place, but it turns out they have five branches.
First, a drink each
When a bunch of middle-aged guys get together, a place like this beats some stylish bar any day.
Nikomi (offal stew)
The taste was so-so… but overall the menu prices are cheap.
Yakiton assortment
This plate is 725 yen, and the portion is frankly absurd. The flavor is top-notch too. Come alone, order just this, and you’d leave full.
Tebasaki (chicken wings)
Beautifully cooked.
Croquette
Made with Hokkaido potatoes, they say, and it was a real treat. Highly recommended.
Green peppers wrapped in cheese and bacon
The smoky flavor was intense.
Some kind of horumon, but I can’t quite remember…
French fries
A light drink and some food came to under 2,000 yen a head, which is remarkable value. Shinbashi really is the town of the salaryman.
