Craftsmanship, a Beer Bar in Asakusa

Asahi Beer has its headquarters in Asakusa. I’ll assume everyone knows where it is… Right next to the HQ there’s a bar/cafe run directly by Asahi Beer. They pour local craft beers, and every dish on the menu is made to go with beer, so it’s a really satisfying place, though not many people in Korea seem to know about it. On this visit I found the name had changed and the interior had been tidied up a bit. The first floor is now a Spanish bar. It’s not just the look; the menu has changed in all sorts of ways too, which makes it even more fun. Honestly, how much profit can a giant like Asahi Beer make running a little bar like this? I suspect it’s more about service and publicity.

First, the Weizen

craftmanship

Seriously… heavenly. Exactly my kind of beer. I haven’t been drinking much beer lately, but at this place I just can’t help myself…

Sampler

You get to enjoy what each one has to offer. They’re all good, really. I just have a particular soft spot for Weizen.

Bacon

craftmanship

When it comes to beer snacks, it has to be bacon.

Potatoes

craftmanship

The beer goes down way too easily with these.

Beef stewed in beer

craftmanship

I think it was Belgian-style; as for the taste… let’s just say it was born to go with beer.

Grilled vegetables

craftmanship

Honestly… I was surprised at how good these were. Is it even allowed to taste this good?

Sesame oil

craftmanship

Drizzle a little on top and everything tastes even better.

And in the end, one more glass…

Japan has plenty of great places to eat, but I doubt there are many that suit me as well as this one. Winter is a bit cold for it, so once the weather warms up I want to make this a regular stop.
