Nihonkai, a Sushi Spot in Osaki

Osaki is a small neighborhood between Gotanda and Meguro. It is where you can catch the Rinkai Line and where NHN Japan is based, a place where sleek buildings and old residential streets sit side by side. Food-wise it used to be a bit famous for Rokurinsha, but that shop has since closed, and I am not really sure what is famous around here these days. Anyway, someone who lives nearby invited me to their local sushi place.

Sashimi

nihonkai

Since it was autumn, I think that was Pacific saury..

Katsuo tataki

nihonkai

Being a neighborhood sushi place, it is decent. Nothing that really wows you, though.

Kawa (chicken skin)

nihonkai

A sushi place that also sells yakitori. Do not expect much from the taste, though.

Shrimp nigiri

nihonkai

Engawa

nihonkai

Kohada (gizzard shad)

nihonkai

Looks like mirugai (geoduck).

Cucumber roll

nihonkai

Well.. nothing especially tasty, just an ordinary neighborhood izakaya. But then..

Black Nikka Freezing Highball

nihonkai

Oh.. this one was pretty much perfectly delicious. Just to check, I ordered it at other places too, and since it never tasted like this, they clearly take good care of it here. Black Nikka is not even expensive, yet a highball can turn out this good.. Compared to this, a Kaku highball tastes like Captain Q (a cheap Korean rum), and I do not think I can drink it anymore.
