I mentioned that there are not many places to eat in Hapjeong, but a few have opened up lately. The whole neighborhood is being redeveloped, so that is only natural. The thing is, some of them are closed on weekends and there are not many reviews up yet, so I could not quite bring myself to go. So instead I went to the old standby, Myeongpum Janchiguksu.
The place
It was packed. I noticed quite a few taxis parked in front of the building..
Side dishes
Simple.
Janchi-guksu
I ordered the plain noodles, and the broth is really good. Would work well as a hangover cure too. The noodles were tasty as well; it is just a shame the whole thing is nothing but carbs.
Mandu
I figured noodles alone would leave me hungry, so I ordered a plate of mandu, and out came top-notch dumplings stuffed to bursting. No wonder the place is popular. The trouble is, finishing both the noodles and the mandu alone was not easy. I asked, and they do not do half plates; you can order a full one and take home whatever is left, but I did not feel like carrying it back to the office, so I ended up eating everything. I nearly keeled over with my stomach about to burst. With two people sharing one plate it would be just right, but this is the problem when you eat alone.. the menu is really awkward for a solo diner.
