A Summer Day’s Walk Around Hapjeong and Tobagi Sundae

I had something to take care of, so I went out to Hapjeong on a hot summer weekend. That was a month or two ago, and now it is already cold.

The bus window

The weather was really lovely. There are not many days like this in a year.

Yeonnam-dong

The scenery..

A flea market I stumbled on along the way

I had no idea Yeonnam-dong had an event like this, and a fairly big one at that. When I asked, they said it is held about once a month and has been going for about three years. How did I not know about it at all..

A surprisingly varied menu..

Plenty of bread and desserts, and all of it looked good. I guess this is the charm of a flea market.

This is booze..

It was the weekend and the mood was right for a drink, but I was busy with work that day, so I skipped it.

Tomi’s Bakery, which I dropped into along the way

I needed some bread, and it happened to be open. They had Vietnamese bread, so I bought a few. The taste was so-so..

Tobagi Sundae

It was recommended to me by Mareunbi, and the sundaeguk was excellent, far beyond what I expected. To think a place like this still survives in this neighborhood. They do jokbal too, so it might be nice to come back next time for sundae plus jokbal. But these days I mostly eat alone, so who knows when that will happen..

A rainbow

A rainbow came out over Mangwon-dong.

Desserts I bought at the market

The quality is good.

They would not look out of place at all sold in a shop. Standards in Korea really have come a long way.

Palet d’Or’s Dassai chocolate

This one is not from the market; I brought it back from Japan, and after leaving it in the fridge, this was all that was left. My parents help themselves now, apparently.. Anyway, when I tasted it, it really does taste like Dassai. What a curious thing..

The sky

The sky was so pretty that even a careless snap came out looking gorgeous.

We need days with weather this nice once in a while. I would like to switch to a better camera, but I am also thinking of giving up on all that and just settling on the iPhone..
