I heard a rumor that a new naengmyeon place had opened about halfway between Hakdong Station and Gangnam-gu Office Station, so I went to check it out. Besides this one there are a few more naengmyeon places near the Gangnam-gu Office (Bongmilga, Nampo Myeonok and so on), so I should visit them when I get the chance.

It is in a back alley, but surprisingly there is a fair amount of parking. Maybe that is only to be expected in Gangnam, though.

Side dishes

Half jeyuk (boiled pork), half pyeonyuk (boiled beef)

We ordered half and half, and the portions turned out to be generous. The pyeonyuk was a bit on the soft side, while the jeyuk was in good shape. It is still early days since the opening, so there is some inconsistency.

Mul-naengmyeon

I really liked the broth. The noodles were at a decent level too. While eating I kept thinking of Eulji Myeonok; add some chili powder and I bet it would be almost identical.

Lately a word like “myeon-splaining” seems to have come into being, and it is a bit of a shame that there seem to be more and more people who talk like experts on noodles without even knowing seonju humyeon, drinks first and noodles after. Just reciting the outward form for others to see is not the whole point; what matters is understanding the deeper meaning behind it..
