A branch of Veteran Kalguksu, the famous place from Jeonju, has opened at the Express Bus Terminal. I am not that big a fan of kalguksu, but it is a famous Jeonju place and it opened inside the Honam Line terminal, so it is easy to get to, and I stopped by when I happened to have some business nearby. That day I had gone to my friend’s dental clinic (Seoul S Dental in the Banpo Raemian shopping arcade) for treatment; he is so kind and so good at his job that I make the trip even though it is three hours round trip. Cough..
Main entrance
It was always packed, but this day was relatively quiet. Maybe the opening buzz has worn off.
Simple side dishes
They come bunsik-style rather than proper-restaurant style, but then it really is a bunsik place.
Kalguksu
It has a spicy kick like jjolmyeon sauce, with a heap of sesame on top adding a nutty flavor. Maybe because of the beaten egg, it did not feel as spicy as it looked. The style is quite different from a typical kalguksu; it is a kalguksu made by a bunsik place. Perhaps that is why it is as addictive as bunsik food.
The noodles
The noodles were good, and the broth was good too, even if it was somewhat masked by the spiciness.
The only downside is that if you go alone it is hard to order the mandu as well. But then there are not many occasions to go to the Express Bus Terminal with a group.. These days when I head out to the provinces I just take the KTX.
