Winter calls for Pyongyang naengmyeon. I carved some time out of a busy schedule and made it to Pyongyang Naengmyeon in Oryu-dong before winter was over.
The entrance
It looks like a converted house.
The menu
Pyongyang naengmyeon for 7,000 won—unheard of these days.
Side dishes
Pyongyang naengmyeon
The noodles were average, but the broth was top-notch.
A half plate of mandu
Excellent value for money. I’d drop by often if it were easier to get to, but if I’m going to make the trek to Oryu-dong, I could just as well go to Jeongin Myeonok in Gwangmyeong…
On the way home
So the famous “Goddess” bakery (former idol Jo Min-ah’s shop) was in this neighborhood. They charge high prices, perfectly legally, and if you don’t like it you simply don’t buy—yet I was amazed at how many people with time on their hands were bashing it. If you’re going to criticize, at least do it with some class… I wonder if those folks will ever set foot in Oryu-dong even once in their lives.
