There are lots of izakayas around Kabukicho in Shinjuku, and Kanae is one of them. It isn’t cheap, but they cook with seasonal ingredients.
Sashimi
These days there are plenty of places in Korea that do this well too…
Kaki furai (fried oysters)
I love these, so I had to order them.
Basashi
They have horse meat too.
Fried shrimp
Some unusual dishes on the menu here.
Octopus carpaccio
Grilled sea bream head
Probably dried squid
Garlic
Cheese rolls
We just ate casually, but the bill turned out to be a bit steep. For round two we moved on to a wine bar.
Assorted appetizers
Cheese
A good restaurant like this is about the average in Japan. Finding somewhere even better isn’t easy. That day we just ate casually and called it a night.
