In the autumn of 2015, a trip to Tokyo came up out of the blue. Not a holiday, though – a business trip.

They’d just opened at Isetan Shinjuku around this time. They opened in Korea recently too, and I was very pleased with it.

Today’s haul

The day after arriving I raided a convenience store and picked up a few things. First time in Japan in a while, so I couldn’t forget a can of beer before bed.

French dark rum

Didn’t know rum like this existed. Seems to be meant for making desserts, but I brought it home anyway.

L’Éclair de Génie

This was a bit meh, and I don’t get why it’s so popular. None of the éclair’s weaknesses have been fixed at all.

Nobody in Tokyo does it this well.

A beer

This time I drank it out of a Mt. Fuji glass, for a change.

Udon at the airport on the way home

There’s not much to do in the duty-free area at Narita, so I settled for udon. Nothing to write home about.

The Dassai lineup

Only later did I find out the black bottle next to them was Dassai too.

Chivas Regal Mizunara

Saw it at the airport and gave it a try – it’s good. It broke my preconceptions about Chivas Regal. These days a lot of people bring back Dassai from the airport, but there aren’t many places in Korea where you can really enjoy Dassai properly. Korean food itself doesn’t pair well with a delicate sake like Dassai. So buying Chivas Regal Mizunara instead is a far more satisfying choice. I should keep picking it up whenever I pass through.
