I’d heard Jangho Wanggopchang was famous for its lunchtime jjalla, but it wasn’t the kind of place I could go to alone. Luckily I managed to join someone who works nearby. Getting to a good restaurant is no easy business.

At lunchtime there’s always a long line.

Jjalla

It’s boiled beef offal, basically suyuk made with innards, and it’s seriously good. The soju starts flowing from midday.

Kimchi jjigae

It’s a gopchang place, but it’s famous for its kimchi jjigae. I think you can get gopchang if you come in the evening, but apparently there’s no jjalla at night, which is a shame.

Let it simmer well and dig in.

Turns out there’s a decent place. Local knowledge really is the most reliable.
