I heard a rumor that Magnolia Bakery had opened at the Pangyo Hyundai Department Store, so I rushed over. There’s no line these days, but back then the queue was monstrous. Still, hurrying over as soon as a place opens, lining up and eating there — isn’t that the fun of being a foodie? Go later and the thrill just isn’t there. Suffering for something nobody else thinks is a big deal, and being satisfied with it, is what makes a true otaku..

Hyundai Department Store

I’d heard the surrounding shops took a big hit when the Hyundai opened, and I can see why. It’s huge, and it’s packed wall to wall with interesting stores. They really did a fantastic job with it.

Wait a few months and you could just walk in and eat.. so why do people line up like this.. I lined up diligently myself, and luckily got to buy some after about an hour. While waiting, I spotted lots of cool ladies who looked like they’d walked out of Sex and the City. I guess if you’re from the same generation, there’s a lot to relate to.

It’s an Italian grocery, but they serve food and sell ice cream too. Next time I’ll have to try the gelato.

Pretty much every famous dessert shop from the city is here. Hotel Douce too.

It came in together with Meringue Meringue.

There’s a place for brunch, too.

Buminok

This is the first branch of Buminok, the one from Jongno. Prices are a touch higher than in Jongno.

The outdoor garden

The space is really well put together. If I lived around here I’d probably end up visiting all the time. Then again, it’s probably been half a year since I went to Pangyo..
